Under-18s preview: Mansfield Town (H)

23 October 2020

Attention turns back to the Youth Alliance League this Saturday, as the Iron's Under-18s take on Mansfield Town at home (11am kick-off).

Please note, in line with the current EFL COVID-19 guidelines, no spectators are permitted at these games.

SCENE-SETTER

United lost 4-1 last weekend against Lincoln City at Brumby Hall in the Youth Alliance Cup, with Harry Lewis scoring the Iron's goal to make it two-in-two.

The side, however, still boast a 100 per cent record in the league with two wins from their two games so far this season.

The Stags come into the game following a 2-0 home defeat against Burton Albion last weekend in the Youth Alliance Cup.

Mansfield are sixth in the league with two wins from three so far this campaign, joint on points with the Iron, Rotherham United and Lincoln City. The Millers and Scunthorpe are the two sides on 100 per cent records, as are Grimsby Town, but the Mariners have only played one game.

TEAM NEWS

The Iron's Under-18s continue to have Under-15s and Under-16s in the group to supplement a smaller squad of scholars this season.

Under-16s players Harry Griffin and Harry Elliott-Bell were both used substitutes last weekend, while second year scholar Patrick Virgo and first year scholar Jack Moore-Billam also came off the bench last weekend after recovering from illnesses that kept them sidelined against Bradford City a fortnight ago. Oliver Kemp and Ethan Young, the other two absentees through illness, made the starting eleven.

Goalkeeper Ben Crosher is back in the squad following an injury and he also got 15 minutes on the pitch last weekend.

Elsewhere, first-year Ben Franklin still misses out as he recovers from an ankle ligament injury, while Oliver Lobley has missed the latest action with a stomach injury.
