Scunthorpe United would like to remind supporters the importance of their conduct when we travel to Boston United tomorrow evening.
Under regulations set by the the Football Association, clubs are accountable for the behaviour of their fans both home and away. The actions of a single individual can therefore result in formal charges against the club. Such charges may lead to significant financial penalties, restrictions on ticket allocations, stadium capacity limitations, or, in the most serious cases, sporting sanctions.
We regret to inform supporters that we have been charged by the Football Association following three separate incidents on the road this campaign, with pyrotechnics discharged at our away games at Southend United, Boston United and Tamworth, and the club now has to spend much-needed resource on responding to these charges, along with mitigating any further future risks, which will include increased costs on security and searching at our upcoming home games and any possible monetary charges set out by the governing bodies as a result of the three incidents which have already occurred this season.
We are proud of the passionate support shown by our fans across the country and must reenforce that it is only ever the minority who cause any issues. On the whole, your support home and away has been exemplary, as it always has been and we urge that to continue tomorrow evening. It only takes one supporter to let us down, and therefore cause charges against us.
Behaviour that breaches ground regulations, including the use of pyrotechnics, entering the field of play, throwing objects, discriminatory language or gestures, or any other anti-social conduct, puts the club at risk and will not be tolerated.
The club is working closely with the Football Association, the police, and the opposition clubs who are also involved in these charges to identify the culprits, with one individual currently on police bail following the incident at Boston United. Should any incidents occur at Boston this weekend, we will work closely with the relevant authorities and will take appropriate internal action where individuals are identified, including the possibility of bans.
We ask all supporters travelling to tomorrow’s game to represent Scunthorpe United with pride, respect fellow fans and staff, and ensure their support remains positive.
Your backing makes a difference, and we thank you for your continued support.
