He told iFollow Iron: “There were some positives. A lot of people got minutes under their belt who haven’t played for a long time. I thought every player put a good shift in. Pleasing for Ryan Colclough to get a goal too.
“There were some things we could work on; pressing the ball a bit more and towards the end we got a bit deep. We came back from 1-0 down with five minutes to go.”
The game finished full-time 1-1 at the Sands Venue Stadium but spot kicks followed and Butler conceded he doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to shoot-outs.
He explained: “My record on penalties isn’t great. I’ve lost three penalty shoot-outs I’ve been involved in!
“It’s a lottery and you’ve got to be strong mentally to take a penalty; It’s a 50/50 chance.”
He returned from a short-term injury to captain the side against the Foxes in the Leasing.com Trophy.
“It’s been two weeks since I fell awkwardly on my ankle and strained a few ligaments. I’ve kept Lee Novak company as well because it’s been a long time out for him as well,” he said.
The captain praised the Iron’s young crop who started the game, including Jacob Bedeau, Levi Sutton and Andy Dales.
“They did excellent; credit to them. I said that to them in the changing rooms. Andy Dales was brilliant when he came on as well.”
