The Iron and Scunthorpe Scorpions are joining forces to form a new partnership which will involve aiding young people's access to sport.

The two professional sides will be working closely together in the coming weeks and months, initially focusing on the government's Kickstart Scheme, which provides funding to employers to create jobs for 16-to-24-year-olds on Universal Credit, as well as further marketing and promotional opportunities.

Education Manager Gav Cooper said: "We are delighted to be forming a partnership with the Scorpions, who provide another outlet to watching live professional sport within the town.

"The importance of sport within a town is pivotal and it's fantastic that we have not only a professional football team, but a professional speedway side as well. It's not only a fantastic time, but also an important time for both teams to be supporting each other. There is a big cross-over in terms of the two fanbases.

"We are looking forward to working with them on a number of different ventures, including within the local community via the Kickstart Scheme and to help give individuals in Scunthorpe and the surrounding areas access to sport. Our intention is that this partnership will grow and develop over the coming weeks, months and years."

The Scorpions' latest race meeting is on Friday, July 2nd when they host Berwick Bandits at the Eddie Wright Raceway, 7.30pm tapes up. Click here for ticket details.
