The 25-year-old helped keep a clean sheet against the league leaders, as the Iron made it five wins from their last seven matches.
Speaking to iFollow Iron, he said: “All the boys dug deep, and we ended up getting the result. I thought it was a scrappy game, but I’m glad to come out with three points.
“They have gone into it at the top of the league, but it was just a case of us digging deep and sticking tight as a unit throughout, and then getting the goal.”
He added: "It’s always great getting a clean sheet and a win away from home. They are at the top of the league, so they are doing something right. We have got to build from that now and take it into Saturday (at Salford City)."
McGahey returned to action at Bolton Wanderers last week, after playing just 45 minutes in two-and-a-half months due to a hamstring injury, and is delighted to be back.
He said: “I’ll take it steady and we’ve just got to manage it.
“It's just one of those things where my body felt fine, but it wasn’t fully healed at the time (when he came back previously). You have to just get on with it and move on.”
He concluded by saying the win at Cambridge was a big confidence boost, adding: “It's massive, we needed it after getting two defeats. The boys are buzzing, and we all showed it at the end. We all got together and showed some team spirit, but now we move onto Saturday.”
