Despite not coming away with the result they wanted, the 24-year-old felt his side certainly had opportunities to get something from the match.
He told iFollow Iron: “We're disappointed and frustrated. I felt we had chances to get a better result out of the game, it’s just unfortunate we have come out not scoring a goal and losing in that manner.
“The first chance (that he headed wide), I had more time than I thought I did. I ran well, and I headed it and missed the target. So it was frustrating and annoying to look back on it. In hindsight, I could have taken the touch and slotted it in, but in the moment you just react.”
He added: “The second one I hit the post. It’s annoying that it just wasn’t my day today and it just came back out. On another day that could have hit the post and gone in.”
Speaking about the game as a whole, he summed it up by saying: “We had chances, I had two, Kevin van Veen had a chance, and Devarn Green with one too. They were not half-chances; they were clear cut chances that on another day we score. We’ve ended up conceding two goals and they were not even great goals.”
Minutes into the game, George Taft came off with an ankle injury and Onariase had to come on to his place. He said: “It’s good to get back in the team. The gaffer said in training the day before to be ready. It is important as a player to always be ready anytime in the game, which I was.”
Now the focus switches to the next game, away at Cambridge United on Tuesday and Onariase said: “There were many positives to take out of that game. Judging that they (Cheltenham) are second in the league, they defended for the majority of the match.
“The overriding factor losing 2-0 is harsh. We need to take the positives and build from that leading into Tuesday.”
Looking ahead to that game further, he said: “We don’t fear no opposition, regardless if they are top of the table or bottom. We go with the same mentality to win the game and we are hoping to do that on Tuesday.”
