Forward Caolan Lavery gave his reaction to Iron Player after completing his move to United until January.

Speaking to Iron Player, he began by saying: “I’ve been in training for the last couple of weeks so it’s nice to get it done. Training has been really good, I’ve got to know the lads, and I’m excited to get going."

The 29-year-old has played across all three EFL divisions in his career, with the likes of Bury, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Walsall, and most recently Bradford City last season.

Discussing his career so far, he said: “I’ve played up and down the country and for some big clubs but like I said, I’m looking forward to coming here and getting started.

“I like to think I’ll bring some goals to the team. I’m the type of player who likes to get in-behind, work hard and hopefully we can move up the league.”

Reflecting on his summer, Lavery started off by saying: “It’s always difficult when you’re without a club.

“There’s been bits and pieces of things that haven’t worked out the way I thought they would but that’s a part of the game.

“You have to look after yourself and stay fit, making sure if you get an opportunity you’re ready, and I think I’ve done that.

“I did pieces here and there. I trained with a club over in Canada for a while so I’ve done a bit and kept myself fit so here we are.”

Expanding further on whether the forward would be in contention for Saturday’s home match against Dorking Wanderers, he said: “I feel quite good and sharp in training but matches and training are two completely different things. Hopefully I’m not too far away but we’ll have to see how that goes."

Talking about his experiences with interim manager Tony Daws and his assistant Michael Nelson, who the striker has been training under, he said: “They’ve been brilliant, training has been really good.

“The atmosphere has been really good, the lads have been taking in all the information and working really hard so it’s good.

“The boys would like to be higher up in the league than they currently are but with two positive results hopefully we can build on them and turn the draws into wins.”

Finishing up personally, Lavery said: “It’s all about performing well in training and showing that I’m fit and available, then hopefully I can be chosen sooner rather than later."
