Remembering past matches played by the Iron on May 13...
Former Iron players born on this day: Vince Grimes (1954), Ian Miller (1955), Matt Carmichael (1964), Steve Mildenhall (1978).

The Iron beat Crewe Alexandra 2-0 in a play-off semi-final home leg in May 1992.

Following a 2-2 draw in the away leg of the play-off three days earlier, both teams returned to Glanford Park with everything still to play for, with a lucrative tie at Wembley awaiting the victors as both teams battled for a place in Division Three (or what would be reclassified as Division Two just months later).

Ian Helliwell had scored a brace in the Gresty Road leg, with Dean Martin and Ian Hamilton netting in the second leg which saw Scunthorpe advance to Wembley to face Blackpool. 7,938 were in attendance for the second leg at Glanford Park with the Iron forced to wait until the 83rd minute to break the deadlock.

Martin got the goal moments after Daws had an effort cleared off the line and gloss was added to the triumph a minute from time when a cross dropped for Hamilton in the penalty area for him to fire the ball into the net.

The result meant that Scunthorpe United would be the first Lincolnshire club ever to play at Wembley.
