Lewis Butroid made his second professional appearance for the Iron on Tuesday in their 3-1 win against Sunderland’s U21 team.

United won convincingly in the game and earned three points in their first Group H match of the Checkatrade Trophy.

The 18-year-old made a good account of himself during the game, creating a few chances and he spoke to iFollow Iron about how he maintains his composure in his first games.

ON GETTING HIS SECOND SENIOR APPEARANCE…
LB: It’s nice to follow up on last year. It’s a great experience for me and one that I’ll learn a lot from. It’s a good competition for the young lads and players that aren’t starting as we get 90 minutes under our belts and we get a taste of professional football. I do get a bit nervous but a lot less than when I made my debut last year. However, once you’ve got your first couple of minutes out of the way and had your first touch it just becomes the norm.

ON HIS CHANCES…
LB: For the first one Cam (Cameron Burgess) played me in and it was a good tackle by their lad. I’d got my hopes up and he just toe-poked it. The other one was on my right foot. It was one of those where you just hit it and hope and unfortunately it got blocked. However, it was good to get up the pitch and have chances to score.

ON HIS PERFORMANCE…
LB: I think that I did well in the game and that I played well enough to push players to play better as well. It’s not just about us playing well for ourselves but it’s also about playing well to get the best out of the lads that are starting at the minute.

ON SUNDERLAND U21s…
LB: They were a good set of players. They were lively, very good technically, sharp and so it was a very good test for us. It’s one that we came through quite well though.

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RESULT…
LB: It’s good to keep up winning ways and it’s a chance for us to get to Wembley. It’s massive for everyone when you can put on your CV that you’ve done well and won this competition. We’re definitely looking to do that this year.

ON THE GOALS…
LB: The goals were of good quality and we got them at the right time. The one before half-time was massive for us going into the break at 2-0 up. There was a lot of quality on show today.
