Defender Charlie Goode is looking forward to the prospect of taking on SV Seekirchen in the Iron’s first Austrian friendly game on Wednesday evening (5.30pm kick-off UK time).

Two days into it, the 22-year-old has enjoyed the pre-season training camp so far, and the chance to bond with the new additions to the United squad.

It’s the third time Goode has travelled with the squad to the Obertraun training base, and he knows the positive effects the hard work there can have on the players’ fitness heading into a new season.

Entering his fourth campaign with Scunthorpe, the centre-back told iFollow Iron: “It’s good to be back. A few of the lads are quite familiar with the surroundings. It’s pre-season, we’re getting the fitness levels up and enjoying it.

“The last two seasons when we’ve come here we’ve started (the season) brightly after, so hopefully it’ll be the same again this year.

“I’m feeling fit. It’s still early days in pre-season but a couple of good solid weeks and I’ll be there.”

Looking ahead to the friendly on Wednesday, he continued: “It’ll be nice to get some minutes, get on the pitch, and have a good run-out.

“It’s pre-season, and the hardest part of the year, but the mood is good and we’ll crack on. A lot of it is mentally, but we’ll keep going and make sure we’re ready.”
