As the Iron continue to heat up proceedings with a training camp in Austria ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, Lewis Butroid is pleased with how it’s been going and is looking forward to upcoming season.

He told iFollow Iron about the week in Obertraun so far: “I’ve enjoyed it. It’s been tough but it’s nice to get away from Scunthorpe and the training ground for a bit, with a cool change of scenery.”

United drew 0-0 in their first of two friendlies on Austrian soil against strong opposition in the form of SV Seekirchen.

Speaking about the match he said: “They were a decent side. They kept it tight and defended well so it was definitely a tough test.”

The left-back was happy to get 70 minutes under his belt during the game and added: “I feel fit, I felt like I could go on for the full 90 so that’s a positive and I’m feeling good. By the start of the season I’ll be ready whenever I’m called upon.”

The former Iron academy star made his break into the first team after signing a professional contract in 2016/17 and is hoping he can continue to impress this season.

“I want to build on last year” he said after reflecting on the previous campaign.

“I want to keep going forward to improve my game. I’m enjoying my football and hopefully I can push on this year, play a few more games and help the team as much as possible.”
