The West Yorkshire-based referee travels to Glanford Park for the first time since May 2011 to take charge of a Scunthorpe game.
Mainly officiating in the Premier League, Atkinson has been given games in English football's top division since 2004 and was FIFA listed from 2006 until this year, which has taken him all over the world refereeing matches at the highest level.
Last season, the 47-year-old took charge of 33 games last season, showing 118 yellow cards and five red.
He will be assisted by Rob Atkin and David Jones, while Matthew Maddison is the fourth official.
