Manager Paul Hurst has spoken of the qualities new addition Yann Songo’o will bring to the squad.

The 27-year-old signed on Sunday evening to become the club’s fifth new addition of the summer, and the boss believes the Cameroonian will add something different to the club’s midfield options.

Hurst told Scunthorpe-United.co.uk: “He can play different positions and I’ve predominately brought him in as a midfield player, but that’s not to say we might need to use him somewhere else in time.

“He knows the role I’ve brought him in to do. He is different to the types of players we already have at the football club in midfield, and I think he’ll be a good addition to us.

“He can play as a defensive midfield player, but also up one and get around the pitch that way. In terms of his physical attributes, he can be a threat at one end for set-plays and can pick up at the other.

“He’s a strong, physical player, but can play as well. Hopefully he can show that in the coming weeks and months.”

The manager added: “He brings good experience and has won promotion from League Two with Plymouth. He’s then had a couple of seasons with them in League One and knows what that’s about too.

“He’s played a lot of games in the last few seasons and we’ll need that aspect. He’s also a bubbly character, will have a voice and that’s something we’ve touched on in the past that we need.”
