Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the signing of winger Alex Gilliead for an undisclosed fee from League One side Shrewsbury Town.

The 23-year-old pens a two-year deal to become our fourth addition of the summer.

The attacker started his career with Newcastle United, who he signed for after being spotted playing for Swalwell Juniors. He stayed with the Magpies until 2018, while impressing on loan at Carlisle, Luton and Bradford in two spells.

He then joined Shrewsbury at the start of last season and made 35 appearances, scoring on three occasions.

In total, he’s made 155 career appearances and netted 12 times. Gilliead has also represented England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-20 levels.
