Experienced central defender Harry Davis is looking forward to quickly meeting his new team-mates when he starts pre-season training with the Iron on Thursday.

The 29-year-old penned a one-year contract to become our second addition of the summer on Wednesday, and spoke about how the move came to fruition following regular dialogue with United first team manager Neil Cox this summer.

He told iFollow Iron: "I've had a few chats with the gaffer after the season finished at Morecambe, speaking quite frequently and I know him already from back in my Crewe days. We spoke and were both keen to get something sorted.

"I know quite a lot about the club already and where they were, and I want to go in and try to improve the team from where they finished last season. I'm excited about the opportunity."

The move will see him reunite with fellow ex-Shrimps man Alex Kenyon, with the midfielder signing following his departure from the Mazuma Stadium earlier this summer.

He said: "It's always nice to know some lads when you go in as a newbie. I know Alex, and also Myles Hippolyte from my time playing up in Scotland, so it'll good to see a couple of faces I know already when you walk through the door.

"I'm looking forward to (the start of pre-season) on Thursday. It'll be nice to get in there, get to know the lads and meet new people."

Talking about the qualities he can add to the squad, Davis said: "When I get asked this, I always wait for the fans to judge me but I'd say I'm a leader with a lot of experience now. I've been fortunate enough to have a couple of promotions out of this league so know it inside-out.

"I'm comfortable on the ball and would like to think I'm a ball-playing centre-back.

"I'm looking forward to getting started and if I can pass on some experience to the younger lads then I'm sure that will help. I've played over 300 career games and am hoping for a lot more here at Scunthorpe.

"I've played here before and know it can be a great atmosphere. Hopefully we can have some really good days again this season. I'm just looking forward to the challenge ahead."
