OTD: May 7

Remembering past matches played by the Iron on May 7...

Former players born on this day: Derek Charnley (1954), Junior Brown (1989).

The Iron secured promotion to League One with a 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury On This Day in 2005.

A tense stalemate was played out, with Joe Hart in the Shrews goal thwarting United's attempts.

2,000 Iron fans made the trip to Shropshire, and saw their side finish the stronger as 39-year-old winger Peter Beagrie saw his free-kick clip the top of the crossbar with seven minutes to go.

There was still time for Steve Torpey overhead kick to be saved by Hart too.

Nevertheless, the Iron secured a second place League Two finish and automatic promotion and celebrated in style at full-time.

Overall playing record for May 7: Played 13, Won 5, Drawn 5, Lost 3, Scored 20, Conceded 21.
