Latest Iron addition Sam Fishburn gives an insight into his career so far and his goals for the upcoming Vanarama National league North season as he hopes to help United go one step further this campaign.

Firstly, when giving his reaction to joining Scunthorpe, Fishburn said: “I’m delighted to be here, and I can’t wait to get going ahead of the new season. I was at Fleetwood last season, where I enjoyed myself at a good club and had a good time despite the relegation, but I’m looking forward to next year.”

When describing himself as a player, Fishburn stated: “I’m a big hold up striker who likes to get on the ball, get my teammates involved and I love to score to goals as well.

“Obviously the aim is promotion, and I’m here to help the team win this league firstly and to get back to where we belong and hopefully even higher. We’re going to give the fans everything we’ve got, and we’ll do our best to get it over the line.”

Fishburn gave an insight into his professional career so far and commented on his time with his boyhood club Carlisle saying: “I started playing for Carlisle when I was young, at League Two level which was good, and I played here actually against Scunthorpe in the 21-22 season, so I know it’s a tough place to come.

“I’m looking forward to be with the of the home side this time as the fans were great here as I remember from last time, so to be part of it is really exciting.”

When commenting on his immediate goals ahead of the upcoming 2024-25 season, Fishburn set himself high targets and holds high standards for the campaign: “I want to score at least 15 maybe 20 goals on the road to hopefully promotion, which is something we all obviously want.”

Finally, with pre-season fast approaching, all players have been warned on the gruelling preparations that lie ahead, Fishburn responded to the warning sent by first team manager Andy Butler saying: “I’ve heard a lot about it and I’m sure it’s going to be very tough, but it’ll leave me in the best possible shape to go and compete this season.”
