Brian Laws to take charge of Iron Legends XI as part of Iron Aid 2026

Scunthorpe United is delighted to confirm former player and manager Brian Laws will lead our Legends XI side as part of our Iron Aid encounter on Sunday, August 2nd (4pm kick-off).

Joining the club in 1997 as player-manager, Laws quickly laid the foundations for one of the most successful periods the Iron had experienced.

During his first spell in charge, which lasted from 1997 to 2006 (with a brief three-week spell away in 2004), Laws transformed Scunthorpe United into a consistently competitive side. He guided the club to promotion from the Third Division via the play-offs in 1999 and secured a second promotion to League One in 2005, earning widespread praise for his attacking style of football and ability to develop talented players.

As a player, Laws was a dependable defender with a distinguished career spanning over 500 league appearances for clubs including Burnley, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest. Following his success with the Iron, he managed Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley before returning to Scunthorpe for a second spell in 2012.

IRON AID 2026

Scunthorpe United Football Club is delighted to announce the return of Iron Aid, with a Scunthorpe United Legends side set to take on a Manchester United Legends XI in a special pre-season fixture at the Attis Arena on Sunday, August 2nd (4pm kick-off) as part of a wider event with more details to be released in due course.

The highly anticipated event, organised in partnership with Nor-Lait Promotions, will bring together some of the most iconic names from both clubs' histories for a memorable afternoon of football, nostalgia and fundraising.

Iron supporters will once again have the opportunity to see former fan favourites pull on the claret and blue shirt, while a star-studded Manchester United Legends squad promises to attract supporters from across the region.

The match marks the return of the popular Iron Aid concept, which in 2024, as part of the club's 125h anniversary celebrations, raised significant funds for local charities and community causes, whilst creating unforgettable occasions for supporters of all ages.
