Scunthorpe United is delighted to welcome back attacker Kyle Hurst, who joins the club on a permanent basis following his departure from Doncaster Rovers.
The 23-year-old versatile winger joins the Iron ahead of the 2026-27 campaign on a one-year contract, adding further quality to Andy Butler's squad as preparations continue for the new season.
A product of the Birmingham City academy, Hurst signed his first professional deal with the Blues at 18, featuring regularly in both the U21s and U23s teams before making the switch to Doncaster Rovers in the summer of 2022.
Joining Rovers in a year of transition for the club, Hurst became an almost instant starter for then Danny Schofield's Donny team, playing 45 games in his first League Two campaign, in which he scored seven goals operating from both in attacking midfield and from the flanks. Surpassing 100 games for Rovers, which included 21 as he played his part in Doncaster's promotion to League One, he also had a stint at Scottish Championship side Queens Park for the second half of the same season, playing 10 times for the Spiders.
Hurst linked up with the Iron back in January and made four starts and one substitute appearance during his loan spell, suffering an injury in the final of those appearances at the Attis Arena. First, looking more serious, Hurst’s road to recovery commenced and led to him being fit towards the end of the campaign.
Speaking after penning the deal, Kyle said: “I’m looking forward to it. I was unfortunate with the injury last season, and I wanted to come here full-time, and I want to hit the ground running. I feel like I was taking my chance to impress in the game I got injured. It was hard to take, because I was kind of proving myself. It’s gone now, and I have to look forward.
“The fans, the players, the staff, it’s a very family-oriented club, and I love to be involved in it. Playing at home is amazing, and I’m looking forward to keeping fit, having a full pre-season and showcasing what I have to offer.
“Competition is key, and brings the best out of everyone, for the team and individuals. We set the bar last season, we were very close at the end of last season, and it’s a great bar for us to set and kick on when the season starts.”
The winger joins the Iron as our fifth permanent new recruit ahead of the new campaign and becomes the latest addition to Andy Butler's squad as preparations continue for the 2026-27 season.
Welcome back, Kyle!
