Midfielder Jordan Richards gives his reaction to signing for the club as well as previewing the upcoming pre-season campaign.
One of the Iron's summer additions, Jordan Richards, provided his initial thoughts on joining the club on a two-year deal following his departure from Boston United, as well as previewing the upcoming pre-season as Scunthorpe begin to prepare for the 2026-27 campaign.
Firstly, Richards responded to an opening question regarding his reaction to signing for the club by saying: "I'm buzzing to be here finally, it's felt like a long time coming, this one and I'm just delighted to finally get it all sorted. Now I just want to meet the fans and get the season started as quickly as possible. I'm ready."
Since joining the club just under two weeks ago, the central midfielder has already endured pre-season testing with the rest of the Scunthorpe squad. In response to being asked how he's finding his time at the club so far, Richards replied: "I'm loving it so far, to be honest, the lads and the staff have been great already and have really made me feel at home. Everyone's welcomed me, and it already feels like I've been here a while, which is good."
"On the other hand, I've not been looking forward to all the running that we've got planned, but it's part and parcel of pre-season, so I just can't wait to get my head down and show people what I can do. The gaffer's already said that he wants us to be a fit group and to all be putting 100% in. We know that it's going to be tough, but I think we'll see the rewards during the season."
Having almost joined the club on several occasions in the past, Richards responded to a question on what drew him to the club by stating: "When the Gaffer spoke to me the year before last I was very much contemplating the move but it didn't quite happen, since then I've been looking into Scunny and seeing how the strong crowds are and how well the team have been performing, because of that It was a challenge I wanted to be a part of."
"I'm always looking to better myself as a player, and I think Scunthorpe is the perfect place to do that. I'm ready for the challenge, and to have the security of a two-year contract behind me as well is brilliant for me personally at this stage of my career."
When sending a message to the supporters about the kind of player that they can expect to see, Richards stated: "I'd say that fans can expect me to be a hard-working player who never stops, I always give 100%, and I like to try and be consistent in every game that I play as well as making sure that the rest of the team carries the same standards as I do.
"I like to tackle, and I like to break up the play as much as possible, as that allows me to start attacks. Hopefully, I'll get myself a goal this season, that's certainly a goal after the last couple of years."
