New Iron signing Brad Nicholson provides his initial response to putting pen to paper on a deal with United following his departure from Boston United.

Firstly, Nicholson gave his views joining Scunthorpe by saying: “I’m really excited to join this massive club, we don’t belong where we are so it’s my goal to get us back where we should be.”

Nicholson was part of the Boston United side that narrowly beat Scunthorpe on penalties in last season’s play-off semi-finals, the left sided defender gave his views on that day from his perspective: “As bad as it sounds, it was a good day for me and one that I’ll never forget, but I’m hoping that I can go one step further and win the league with this team.

“The atmosphere in that play-off game was unreal. I suppose when you’re playing in it you try to shut it out but obviously the fans were incredible.”

With Nicholson knowing the taste of promotion in the past he replied to being asked if the goal was the same this year: “Yes, obviously, we’re wanting to go one better this year, and actually go on and win the league and we’re going to do everything it takes to get back up there.”

When describing himself as a player and what he can bring to this new look United team, Nicholson replied: “I’m a left-sided centre-half who will give the fans my all. As a lot of people know I can throw it very far, and I can guarantee I’ll give 100 per cent.

“I can play anywhere across the back three to be honest, but the gaffer has brought me in to play left-centre back, and I’m excited by what he is offering me.”

Finally, with teams across the season being weeks into the pre-season preparations, Nicholson revealed how he’s maintained his fitness recently in the off season: “I’ve been training with Gateshead to keep myself in shape. I’ve had a few offers from clubs in the league above, but this opportunity just ticked all the boxes for me and my family.”
