Former forward Steve Torpey will be among the legends that take to the Attis Arena surface on Sunday, July 28th for Iron Aid.

The acquisition of Steve Torpey in January of 2000 proved to be money well spent. A then-record fee of £200,000 was paid to Bristol City to bring the striker to the Attis Arena, and he would be a massive success in the seven-and-a-half years he would stay at the club.

Sitting at sixth in the Iron's all-time goalscoring record with 74 goals, Torpey's debut came against Cardiff City in a goalless encounter at Glanford Park with his first strike for the club coming two games later as Reading were the visitors.

Across his spell at the club, he would become notorious as a presence leading the line for the club, and would often throw his weight - and elbow - about, resulting in a handful of dismissals across his career.

Going out on a high, he celebrated promotion to the Championship with the Iron in 2006-07 before departing at the end of the season. His final game saw him picked to start against Carlisle United, the last match of the season, for the first time in 22 league games. He would receive a standing ovation when replaced on the hour mark, signalling the end of his time with the club. He signed for League Two side Lincoln City following his departure.

Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce that the club will be officially launching their 125th anniversary season on Sunday, July 28th with an Open Day, which will also including a match on the Attis Arena surface.

With a number of events to organise and announce for the Open Day itself, if you think you could assist, please get in touch. We have vacancies for food outlets, stalls, rides, events and much more to take place on the West Stand car park. Please email feedback@scunthorpe-united.co.uk if you're interested in being involved.

IRON AID 2024

United's legends match, dubbed "Iron Aid" will see a number of former professional players return to the ground, giving Scunthorpe supporters the opportunity to take them on in a game.

Be in with a chance of being on the supporters team by purchasing raffle tickets for the event. It's just £10 per go, and the more tickets you have, the bigger an opportunity you have of being part of the squad. You can purchase raffle tickets by clicking here.

Want to guarantee your space on the team, and don't fancy your chances in the raffle? We have five spaces up for grabs costing £1,000 each.

We also have one very exclusive place on the ex-pros team, with an individual able to be part of the side for £2,500.

For either of these packages, please email glyn.sparks@scunthorpe-united.co.uk.

All participants in the game will have a breakfast included at the Attis Arena on the morning of the game, followed by a light training session with your special guest manager, to be announced. You'll then have a quick tactics session to get you ready for your big match experience.

Not fancying a stint on the pitch, but want to watch some former legends take on some supporters? Maybe you'll have a family or friend take part, and you want to give them some support (or stick) from the sidelines.

All money raised from the Iron Aid match, and from the Open Day, will go directly to the football club as another fundraiser to help the club towards sustainability.
