Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the signing of Defender Regan Clayton on loan from West Ham United for an initial month.
A member of the Hammers academy since the age of 10, Clayton has risen through the ranks with his boyhood club, signing his first scholarship in the summer of 2021 after an impressive campaign with the U18's.
The 2022/23 season was a significant one for Clayton. The defender was involved in two first-team squads, sitting on the bench for both UEFA Europa Conference League Group B matches against FCSB, and made 31 appearances for the U21s in all competitions. In addition, the left-back would be rewarded with a new two-year contract in the summer of 2024 after yet another consistent term with West Ham in the Premier League 2.
Following a handful more appearances for the U21's, Clayton joined then National League club Dagenham & Redbridge on loan until the end of the season for his first taste of men's football, playing 11 times as the Daggers failed to avoid relegation from step one.
With this experience under his belt, Clayton would again be granted the opening half of the 2025-26 season to go on loan to then-newly promoted Braintree Town. In addition to his 8 National League appearances with the other Iron, Clayton made a further 26 appearances for West Ham's U21's, featuring in all six games as the Premier League 2 side finished runners-up in the National League Cup.
Now, Clayton joins the Iron to provide support at left-back for his initial month-long stay with the club and with competition for places thin in that position due to Branden Horton and Tyler Denton both struggling for fitness, appearances may come thick and fast for the emerging 21-year-old.
Welcome to the Iron, Regan!
